How To Install Gothic 3 Community Patch

Gothic 3 Patch 1.74

I've put it off long enough. I've been waiting for the planets to line up and give me a sale on Gothic I at a time when I've had the spare money to get it, and it just hasn't happened. SO I'm going to go ahead and start Gothic II. I can always pick up The first one later and do a straight play-through of all three (already have Gothic III) Here's the thing - I'm frequently at different computers, so the only way I make any headway on GoG games that I actually intend to finish is to play them on a stick (In a window). I've managed to get Gothic II to run on Windows 7 64bit and back (haven't tried it on Win8 yet - don't have it) consistently in a window, and I've installed Vurt's graphic overhaul with fantastic results. (I loved what Vurt did for Morrowind and Skyrim, and this one is awesome too!) But when I tried to install Ironkeep's unofficial English patch I started getting errors on the comp with the Nvidia card. The game just wouldn't run with the patch installed.

From what I've read the game is excellent even without the community patch. Is it really necessary to have it, or can I get by with just the graphical overhaul? PhillipEarl: Pretty much answers my question then!
